2024 International Bridge Building Contest Information
This year's IIT International Bridge Building Contest will be held in Dallas, Texas this April. Information regarding the contest is included in this packet of information. The contest itself will be held in Rockwall, Texas, a suburb east of Dallas. Activities on Friday will take place in Dallas. Any additional questions should be sent to Nicole.harvey@rockwallisd.org
Air travel: If you are flying into Dallas there are two airports from which to choose. DFW is a very large airport but is farther from town and the suburb where the contest will be held. If you are flying in/out of DFW I would recommend a rental car. There will be a greater selection of airlines and flights to DFW. The other option is Dallas Love Field. The main airline that flies into Love Field is Southwest Airlines. This airport is near downtown Dallas and public transportation would be an option. If you need help finding flights or arranging transportation please let me know, I am happy to help.
Hotels: I have attached information regarding hotels in Rockwall, TX. However, if you want to get the urban Texas experience you might enjoy staying in town. If you plan to use public transportation please check the location of train stops near selected hotels. If you plan to stay in Rockwall you will need a rental car.
Itinerary: Friday we will come together as a group at Fair Park, the site of the Texas State Fair. There is a huge celebration of Earth Day (http://earthdaytx.org/) that is occurring at the fairgrounds and there will be so much related to science and engineering for the contestants and sponsors. We will need a good number of those coming to ensure we have enough tickets for all participants and sponsors. We will also have hosts available to meet with contestants and show them around the fairgrounds. We will have a specific time and place to meet on Friday morning once we have an idea of our group size. We should finish at Fair Park late afternoon.
Saturday we will meet at Rockwall Heath High School (801
Laurence Drive, Rockwall, Texas 75032) at 8:30 for
breakfast. We will start checking in bridges just after
breakfast and we hope to start testing bridges by 9:30.
Lunch will also be provided at RHHS during the contest and
we hope to be finished early to mid-afternoon. We will be
using Vernier materials testers to test the bridges. The
specifications are available on the Vernier website if you
are unfamiliar with their function. The materials tester
was also used at the 2015 International Bridge Contest.
